Most boards require 350 in every sub-test. We build your study plan backwards from that line.

What the test looks like
Four sub-tests, four different skills
OET is not a general English exam. Each sub-test rewards a specific technique, and candidates usually lose their grade in one place rather than across the board.
Listening
Three parts: consultation extracts, short workplace extracts, and longer presentations or interviews.
Where we focus: Note-taking under time pressure and catching detail the first time.
Reading
Part A is 15 minutes of expeditious reading across four short texts; Parts B and C are 45 minutes of careful reading.
Where we focus: Skimming strategy for Part A, and reading for writer's stance in Part C.
Writing
One profession-specific letter — usually a referral — with 5 minutes reading time and 40 minutes to write.
Where we focus: Case-note selection, purpose statement, and clinical register.
Speaking
A warm-up followed by two role-plays with an interlocutor, set in your own professional context.
Where we focus: Relationship building, patient-appropriate language and clear explanation.
Why United OET
Built around the sub-test that decides your result
Writing sends more candidates back for a retake than the other three combined. Our programme is weighted accordingly.
Trainers who mark to the criteria
Our faculty teach against the published OET assessment criteria, so feedback tells you which band you are in and what moves you up — not just what sounded wrong.
Small batches, by design
Batches are capped so that every student speaks in every session and every letter gets read closely. Speaking practice does not work at scale.
Profession-specific throughout
A nurse and a radiographer sit different writing tasks. Our material is separated by profession from day one rather than adapted at the end.
Unlimited writing feedback
Writing is where most retakes come from. Submit as many letters as you like during your course; each one comes back annotated within 48 hours.
Courses
Pick the programme that matches your test date
Four programmes, from an eight-week profession-specific course to a three-week intensive for candidates already booked in.
OET for Nurses
Registered nurses targeting NMC, AHPRA, NCNZ or CGFNS registration
- Duration
- 8 weeks
- Batch
- Max 12 students
Our flagship programme. Every reading passage, role-play and referral letter is drawn from nursing practice, so the language you drill is the language you will be tested on.
OET for Doctors
Medical graduates preparing for GMC, AHPRA or Irish Medical Council registration
- Duration
- 8 weeks
- Batch
- Max 10 students
Built for clinicians who already communicate well in practice but lose marks on OET's assessment criteria. We focus on the gap between good clinical English and a graded B.
Intensive Crash Course
Candidates with a booked test date within a month
- Duration
- 3 weeks
- Batch
- Max 14 students
Three weeks, six days a week. A concentrated pass through all four sub-tests with daily timed practice — for candidates who know the format and need reps, not theory.
All twelve professions
Your writing task is not the same as everyone else's
OET sets profession-specific Writing and Speaking tasks. We stream students by profession from the first session so the practice matches the paper you will sit.

Questions
Before you enrol
Requirements change. Always confirm the current grade your regulator asks for directly with them.
What is the Occupational English Test?
OET is an English language test designed for healthcare professionals. It assesses Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking using material drawn from healthcare settings, and it is accepted by regulators and employers across the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and elsewhere. Always confirm the current requirements with the board you are registering with.
How is OET scored?
Each sub-test is scored from 0 to 500 and reported as a grade from A to E. Most nursing and medical boards ask for a minimum of Grade B, which corresponds to 350. Check the exact requirement for your profession and destination country, as some boards accept a lower grade in one sub-test.
Which course should I take?
If you are starting from scratch, take the full eight-week programme for your profession. If you have a test date within a month, take the Intensive Crash Course. If you have sat the test before and only one sub-test is holding you back, one-to-one coaching is usually the faster route.
Do you offer online classes?
Yes. Every course except the classroom option runs as a live online batch with the same trainers, material and feedback cycle. Sessions are live rather than recorded, because speaking practice needs a room — virtual or otherwise.
What happens if I do not get the grade I need?
Come back and repeat your course at no additional fee, provided you attended at least 80% of your sessions and submitted the assigned writing tasks. We will build a revised plan from your score report.
Do you help with booking the test?
We walk you through booking on the official OET site, choosing between OET on Paper and OET on Computer, and preparing your identification. The booking itself is made by you, directly with OET.
Sit a free diagnostic mock this week
One hour, all four sub-tests sampled, and a written analysis of where your grade actually sits. No obligation to enrol.
